DINGO — Art Department

Art Department

The main mission of the DINGO Art Department is to make art from, of, and about the place itself – Bangalow and the greater Northern Rivers Region. This part of the world enjoys a unique, varied, and rich cultural fabric. Through engagement with the Bundjalung people, local artists and performers, and the wider community, we aim to support, serve and promote the cultural life to which we belong.

In the first DINGO festival, this mission pursues three initiatives:

An engagement with local galleries and artists to understand how we can best use the festival to serve their interests in bringing them together to promote the artists of the region.
(Local artists should contact Stuart from the DINGO Art Department on arts@dingofestival.com to find out more and discuss their ideas).

A series of small project grants to make site specific works that reflect, investigate, and show the place itself.

The creation of a site-specific performance group to make work deriving from Bangalow to activate the town during the festival. This company aims to be an enduring presence in the region. There are many site-based performers in the Northern Rivers. We hope to bring these artists together on an ongoing basis to bring recognition to the area as a global centre of place-based artmaking.
(Site-specific performers interested in joining the work or finding out more can contact Stuart at: arts@dingofestival.com)

Community Sunday Events

The Big Bang!

As part of the commitment to showing the place itself and supporting the local creative community, DINGO is staging The Big Bang! This is a gathering of local musical, dance, and other groups for a celebration in Station St. It will feature a Youth Jazz Orchestra, students from the local primary school, choirs, dance groups, multicultural music and performance groups, and more.

We are seeking interest from local communities and from the region more broadly who wish to participate. The event will be broadcast by our media partner BayFM.

We want to hear from you. Application to participate here: Big Bang Proposals

A Gathering of Voices

The Big Bang! will also feature a coming together of multiple choirs and other vocal groups to perform together and/or separately in the street, leading up to participation in Harry James Angus Sunday Gospel show. We are inviting vocal groups to submit proposals for the event.

We want to hear your voices. Application form here: Choir/Vocal Group Proposals
