Steve Spacek

Steve Spacek is a Lewisham-born, Australia-based vocalist, producer and electronic music innovator whose career has traced an extraordinary arc through future soul, broken beat, hip-hop, drum & bass, footwork and deep house. His 2005 debut album Spaceshift — which featured a collaboration with the late J Dilla — is now considered a landmark in the evolution of electronic soul, and its 2024 re-issue introduced a generation of new listeners to his singular vision.

Over the years he has worked with Mark Pritchard as Africa HiTech for Warp Records, released as Beat Spacek for Ninja Tune, and collaborated with his brother D-Bridge as Black Pocket. True to form, many of his albums were made entirely on iPhone and iPad apps — a liberating approach to production he has championed since the early 2010s.

His 2025 EP Blue Room is a labour of love more than two decades in the making — four tracks recorded at Raphael Saadiq's LA studio, featuring Common, Ledisi, Q-Tip and Raphael Saadiq himself, finally finished using stem separation technology. A quiet, historic document.
